Our History

Each of our churches has a long and fascinating history. You can read these by accessing each church from the menu.

Soem of the pages contain information of memorials in the churches and searchable databases of the grave records.

We include here the three now redundant churches of Christchurch Rode, Hardington and Woolverton. The name Hardington Vale comes from the geological fault that runs east west through the benefice. The Church of St Philip and St James at Norton was combined with St Mary's Hemington and St Mary's Laverton into a united benefice. This benefice was then in turn united with the three churches in the parish of Rode Major (Rode, Tellisford & Farleigh Hungerford) in 2001 to form Hardington Vale. In 2007 it became on one Parish.

More information about the Rode Major history can be found in an article The history of the Established Church in Rode.
